This passion for filmmaking has grown mightily over the last few years, beginning as an actor struggling to find my way, all the way to wanting to create something that was my own and made the way I wanted to make it. I just needed to figure out how to do it.
The most amazing part of the process was convincing my father, M Sarki, an accomplished poet, to write a script for a feature. I knew he had the creative and sometimes alternative mind to do it. So a couple of years ago, after a lot of begging and pleading my case, through a collaborative effort he put it on the page. He actually wrote our feature titled GET SHE WATER first and while I was raising money for that, he finished ALPHONSO BOW. With a smaller budget than GET SHE WATER, I knew I could bring this one to life combining the vision my father had with my own and in turn build some respect as a filmmaker.
So, in January 2008 we started casting and through a grueling process we have reached our goals. In January of 2009 we have a film titled ALPHONSO BOW starring Jeffery Pierce and Michael Dempsey. The most exciting part now is the year to follow with the festival circuit and really getting to share it with the public. This is just the beginning for us and there will be many more to follow. —Lije Sarki
